A rare event for the first time East of the Mississippi River bringing artists and photographers together with historical scenes being modeled by reenactors is going to take place in Menomonee Falls Wisconsin.
What is an Artist Ride? The artist ride event concept has its origins in the South Dakota Plains started over 20 years ago. From that time, there has been many artist ride events located throughout the United States. Ever wondered how painters painted scenes of the Old West, Wild West and Native American scenes? These scenes may have been created at artist rides by models, actors and reenactors working together with artists to then photograph images as resource material and to later paint in their style and media.
Never done before in Wisconsin, this Living History event will centralize on western and mid-western history. Scenes such as Native American life, cowboys and cowgirls, fur traders, camps, prairie settlers, wagons and even civil war encampment are among the opportunities to photograph.
On September 17-18, 2011 this event will take place at the Old Falls Village Historical Park in Menomonee Falls Wisconsin. This is a unique chance to meet other professional artists, photographers and models. Participants will be limited to 50 artists and photographers. Non-exclusive scenes are required.
Unlike a workshop, artists and photographers will work directly with the actors/models to create their own unique scenes. The scenes are only limited by your imagination. Props are welcomed by all participants. To participate in this event the entrance fee is $65 for the artists and photographers. The entrance fee will include a one year membership to the Old Falls Village Historical Society and $20 of the fee is tax deductible. 100% of the entrance fee is given directly to the Old Falls Village Historical Society. There is no fee to be a model.
The entrance fee covers one and half days of shooting opportunities with the actors/models. The actors/models are paid by the artists and photographers that work with them. The minimum payment (tip) is $5 per model per scene. If there are several models in a scene, they each receive a minimum of $5 each. If a model has a horse, animal or wagon, the tip naturally increases. The tips can add up quickly depending on the opportunities available. Each model can earn a different amount of money depending on their unique look(s).
Menomonee Falls Wisconsin is located 10 minutes northwest of Milwaukee. Several hotels are available nearby in Menomonee Falls and Germantown along Hwy 45. General Mitchell Airport accommodates most of the largest airlines.
Nancy Greifenhagen of Nancy G Photography is organizing this rare event in the Midwest to take advantage of new locations and scenarios for artists who wish to explore this genre. We are looking for unique models with period correct equipment/regalia as well as interested artists and photographers.
This is a rare opportunity. Act Now! Space is limited. Campsites are available.
Brochures are available online. Mail in a sign up sheet or email your confirmation to Nancy at nancygphoto@wi.rr.com.
