Shelterbox to Receive Support from 2010 Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival

Aug. 23, 2010 | 0 comments

The 13th annual Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival (KMJF), produced by the West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club, announced that a portion of the proceeds from the September 10-11, 2010, event in West Bend will support the ShelterBox program

ShelterBox USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, warmth, and comfort to survivors of disaster worldwide. At the heart of each ShelterBox supplied to those in need is a disaster relief tent, as well as thermal blankets, mosquito nets, tool kits, a stove, children’s packs, and items that vary depending on the nature of the disaster.

The West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club began supporting ShelterBox in 2007 and has funded boxes to China, Indonesia, and Haiti following earthquakes; Burma after Cyclone Nargis; Somaliland after civil conflicts in Somalia; Sri Lanka for people displaced by conflict; and Niger following floods.

In addition to a donation of proceeds, a fully constructed ShelterBox will be on display at the festival, while collection boxes will be in place during both days at West Bend’s Riverside Park.

The Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival will once again feature internationally recognized jazz musicians and vocalists and is expected to draw more than 5,000 jazz lovers from all over the Midwest, particularly from southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

The festival’s entertainment line up is as follows:

Saturday, September 11: 1:45 p.m. – Dotsero; 3:45 p.m. – Craig Chaquico; 6:15 p.m. – Spyro Gyra; 8:30 –The Jeff Lorber Fusion

In addition to music, the festival has tempting international cuisine, an arts marketplace where local and regional artisans display and sell their work, and interactive sponsor exhibits. Grounds are open on Sept. 10 from 4:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., and on Sept. 11 from 1:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Two-day tickets are $135 and a one-day ticket is $75.

In addition, there will be a Kick Off Event sponsored by Key Technical Solutions, Inc. of Milwaukee on Thurs., Sept. 9, from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at Timmers Restaurant, 5151 Timmers Bay Road in West Bend. The event will feature award-winning jazz guitarist Chieli Minucci playing a 30-minute set, plus hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and a chance to win a pair of Frontier Airlines round-trip tickets. The cost to attend is $25, and all proceeds will benefit the West Bend Sunrise Rotary Foundation, Inc.

Festival and Kick Off Event tickets may be purchased in a secure online environment at www.kmjazz.com or by calling the festival’s toll-free information line at 1-877-271-6903.
