1More than $400 was taken, some from petty cash and some belonging to residents, from an office at Homestead Ridge, 225 E. Brown Deer Road, between July 27 to July 30. Also taken was a 38-inch flat screen TV, a laptop computer and binders with medical and other information regarding residents. Those binders were returned by a caregiver who said she was told to take them to study. The case is under investigation.
A resident reported the theft of her wallet with credit cards as she shopped at a Brown Deer Store about noon July 31. One of her cards was used at the Apple Store in Bayshore Town Center to purchase more than $11,500 of items.
2A 26-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for driving with a revoked license and his passenger, a 23-year-old Milwaukee man, for possession of marijuana and a warrant in the 1700 block of West Brown Deer Road at 3:20 a.m. Aug. 3. At the station, when the man took off his shoes, a plastic bag with marijuana fell out. He said it wasn't his and he didn't how it got there. When a grinder with residue was found in his backpack, he said it wasn't his and he didn't know how it got there.
3A 17-year-old Bayside boy was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, a glass pipe with marijuana residue, and disorderly conduct after ringing a door bell a number of times and then throwing ranch dressing on the door in the 300 block of West Manor Circle about midnight Aug. 5. The boy, who admitted the incident, also had a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
4Plants were reported damaged in the 300 block of West Ravine Bay Road at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5. The amount of damage was not available.
5A safe valued at $129 holding about $100 cash was taken from an office at the Salvation Army, 4747 W. Bradley Road, on July 16 or 17.
6Two cars and a shed were broken into in the 8500 block of North 54th Street on July 21 or 22. Stereos valued at more than $200 each were taken from the cars and a push mower and tools valued at more than $500 from the shed.
7A power washer valued at $700 was taken from a vehicle in the 8600 block of North 56th Street on July 21 or 22.
8A car's starting mechanism was badly damaged in an attempted theft in the 9000 block of North Green Bay Road between noon and 1 p.m. July 23. Damage was more than $800.
9A catalytic converter was taken from a car in the 9000 block of North 51st Street about 4 p.m. July 23. A witness saw two men get out of a vehicle, one with some kind of cutting tool who slid under the car and removed the converter. They left quickly. The cost to replace the converter was estimated at $1,000.
10A $300 smartphone was taken from an office at Infinite Gymnastics, 8989 N. 55th St., the evening of July 23. The owner was advised to trace its location with "Find my iPhone" which she did. The signal returned from Madison and police there were called but could not send anyone to check unless the owner was available because the system was "imperfect."
11A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for simple battery and a probation violation after a report of her hitting a woman in the 4300 block of West Dean Road at 10 p.m. July 26. When police arrived, the victim gave a false name for her attacker. However, the suspect was located as she tried to run away. The woman, who was on probation with a no drink order, had a preliminary blood alcohol content of 0.113.
12A 1998 Plymouth Voyager van valued at $1,500 was taken from the 4100 block of West Cherrywood Lane the evening of July 26. It was recovered in the 3100 block of North Sherman Boulevard early morning July 27.
13A 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, open intoxicants and defective lights in the 6200 block of West Brown Deer Road at 1:20 a.m. July 29. The man, who admitted having "two or three shots," had a BAC of 0.09.
One domestic violence incident was reported this week.
14A 20-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft and driving after suspension after filling his car with $40 of gas and driving off from BP Station, 501 W. Brown Deer Road, at 6:25 p.m. Aug. 2. When stopped, the man said he could pay for the gas and held up a handful of money. He then said he thought the gas was free because there was a prepaid amount on the pump reading 7 cents. After being cited, the man returned and paid his bill.
The FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center alerted police July 24 of an Internet scam called "Paid to Drive" where people are told they can "make money simply by driving" when placing "a big ad" on their cars. Some company names being used in this scam but making no such offer were Coca Cola, Heineken's, Red Bull and Johnson Controls, 5757 N. Green Bay Ave., Glendale. The FBI was alerted by two out-of-state women who were contacted in April, one receiving counterfeit checks which were not cashed and no money was lost. The case is under investigation.
15Two Milwaukee men, 18 and 19, were arrested for obstruction after giving false names and the 18-year-old also for loitering and a warrant as they rode bicycles in the 100 block of West Clovernook Lane at 12:45 a.m. July 25. The 18-year-old carried a laptop style bag with a digital media player, coin purse and an ID tag belonging to a woman.
16A $900 bicycle was taken from a garage in the 5800 block of North River Forest Drive sometime July 27 to 30.
17A wallet with more than $150 cash was reported stolen after left near a kiosk in Bayshore Town Center, 5800 N. Bayshore Drive, at 5:45 p.m. July 30. The wallet was found without the money.
18A 22-year-old woman, residence not available, was arrested for theft and possession of shielding devices at Boston Store, 5701 N. Lydell Ave., at 5:20 p.m. July 31. The woman put more than $200 of children's clothing in those bags and attempted to flee. When stopped she said the took the items because she needed "to pay the rent." She wore a skirt from a Mayfair mall store with a price tag still attached, which she said she had purchased but had no receipt.
19A 2006 Honda Civic valued at $3,000 was reported stolen twice from the 6100 block of North Green Bay Avenue; the first time between 5 and 8:30 p.m. July 30. It was found in the same block a few hours later. The second theft was reported between 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. There was no information if the car had been recovered.
20A 2004 Kia Sedona was reported taken from the 5200 block of North Mohawk Avenue at 4 a.m. Aug. 2. The theft was reported by a 17-year-old girl who said she had two male friends at her residence from 10 to 11 p.m. Aug. 1 and discovered the car was gone when she woke up and couldn't find the keys. She didn't know their last names, she said, but her mother called police later and identified one of them.
21A 31-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for theft, criminal trespass and a parole violation after she was seen on surveillance video taking two silver necklaces valued at $150 each and a pair of $18 earrings at Boston Store, 5701 N. Lydell Ave., at 1 p.m. Aug. 2. When stopped, the suspect tossed the earrings at an employee saying, "Here. You can have these back." The woman had been arrested for theft twice in 2011 and twice this year. She was told again she was permanently banned from the store and the mall.
22A hit-and-run driver backed into a yard lamp post causing $100 damage in the 7200 block of North River Road about 6:15 p.m. July 31. A construction worker got the plate number and the driver is being contacted.
At least five cars were vandalized in the 4200 blocks of North Wilson Drive and North Olsen Avenue and the 4300 blocks of North Marlborough Drive, North Wildwood and North Alpine avenues overnight July 27 and 28. Car windows were broken causing damage ranging from $300 to $600 each. In addition, a wooden fence was damaged in the 4300 block of North Alpine Avenue.
23A $600 bicycle was taken from an open garage while the resident was cutting the lawn in the 1700 block of East Menlo Boulevard before 1:15 p.m. July 29.
24Damage was reported to playground equipment and a garage at St. Monica School, 5635 N. Santa Monica Blvd., on July 30. Some garage windows were broken and graffiti sprayed on the door and a post. The vandalism damage, which occurred sometime in June or July, was estimated at more than $2,400.
A resident reported being the victim of a scam after receiving a phone call from a man who said he was her son-in-law July 30. The man told her he'd been arrested for drunken driving and she needed to send $1,800 via Western Union to his New York lawyer. She sent the money before finding out it was a scam.
25A 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for disorderly conduct, riding a bike without lights and loitering/prowling after an officer saw him urinate in public in the 4800 block of North Anita Avenue at 2:30 a.m. July 31.
26A bicycle about 20 years old and valued at $20 and a $20 helmet were taken from a bike rack at Whitefish Bay High School, 1200 E. Fairmount Ave., the afternoon of July 31.
27Two 18-year-old Milwaukee women were arrested for underage drinking and warned for violation of park hours at Big Bay Park, 5000 N. Palisades Road, at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 1.
28A stroller valued at $900 was taken from the 5500 block of North Berkeley Boulevard before 1 p.m. Aug. 2.
29Three Milwaukee men, 20, 21 and 31, and three Milwaukee females, 17, 18 and 21, were either cited or warned for violation of park hours at Big Bay Park, 5000 N. Palisades Road, two at 1:46 a.m. Aug. 2 and four after midnight Aug. 3.
30A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for underage drinking and loitering/prowling after a report of him running through yards in the area of Santa Monica Boulevard and Birch Avenue at 3:35 a.m. Aug. 3. He was caught in the 5200 block of North Shoreland Avenue.
One domestic violence incident with an arrest was reported this week.
