An internal selection process is under way to name a new chief of the North Shore Fire Department.
"Given what we know of the leadership in the department, we felt we could start internally," Fire Commission Chairman Nick Padway said. "We could change that if necessary."
The two deputy chiefs, Robert Whitaker and Andrew Harris, were the only applicants for the position, Padway said. Applications were due March 15.
The commission will review the applications at its meeting Wednesday, and likely will interview the deputies April 15.
"We probably will also have them participate in an assessment center," Padway said.
An assessment center typically presents various management and leadership tasks for candidates.
The commission decided not to name an interim chief after the resignation of Chief David Berousek in February. Harris and Whitaker are continuing their roles as deputies, with Harris in charge of operations and Whitaker in charge of administration.
