Nicolet plans to renovate library space
Consolidation will bring learning support to one place

Glendale — A $2 million project to combine the D and F wing libraries at Nicolet High School sailed through the Plan Commission on Tuesday night, setting the stage for some major changes in the building.
Nat Stein of Uihlein Wilson Architects told the commission that while much of the work will be inside the building, there will be a change on the outside of the D-Wing library, which is on the Daphne Avenue side of the building.
"We will be removing the saw-tooth windows and the planters and adding a large bay window that will bring light into the library," Stein said.
An adjacent room, now used as a small theater classroom, will be incorporated into the D-Wing library.
Brian Reiels, director of facilities services, said the F-Wing library, which is on the northwest side of the building facing an interior courtyard, will be converted to a community room which can be used for School Board meetings, speakers or community meetings.
Reiels said some of the F-Wing library will also be used to create an Academic Success Area.
"You will get learning support and strategies for learning in one place," he said. Those services are scattered about the building now.
Member Dennis Buettner asked if the community room would be open to the public. Reiels said that is the plan. Scheduling would be handled by the Nicolet Recreation Department.
The construction will be mainly financed by American Reinvestment and Recovery Act zero percent interest bonds. Reiels said some reserve funds will also be used.
