Koren named top social studies teacher in state
Maple Dale-Indian Hill - Michael Koren was awarded the Distinguished Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies. Koren has been teaching social studies for the past 30 years at the middle school level in Wisconsin, 28 of those at Maple Dale School in Bayside.
Koren was recognized as a Kohl Award Educational Scholar in 2008 and has been selected to Who's Who in American Education the past two years.
Health department offers vaccines at clinics
The North Shore Health Department is now offering certain vaccines at a reduced cost for persons 19 years or older at monthly immunization clinics or by appointment. For $15 each, the following vaccines are available: Td (tetanus/diphtheria) or Tdap (tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis); MMR (measles, mumps, rubella); HPV (human papillomavirus); Varicella (chicken pox); and Hepatitis A and/or Hepatitis B.
Adult vaccines for pneumococcal disease and seasonal influenza are available at their market prices. Childhood vaccines are also available at the monthly immunization clinics. Most childhood vaccines are free but some have a $15 fee.

North Shore Children's Center coop preschool enrolling
River Hills - The North Shore Children's Center, a cooperative preschool, is enrolling children ages 2 to 4 in classes for the 2010-2011 school year.
Toddler classes are for children who will be two by Sept. 1. There are two-day and three-day toddler classes.
Children who are 3 by Sept. 1 have the option of a three-day or four-day week at the preschool level.
NSCC also offers a five-day K4 class for children who will be 4 by Sept. 1.
The center is located inside Indian Hill School, 1101 W. Brown Deer Road.

Lumen Christi students raise $3,200 for Haiti
Lumen Christi Catholic School's Student Council arranged a penny war to raise monies for Haiti's earthquake relief efforts.
The students raised a total of $3,200 during their week-long event of friendly competition for a wonderful cause.
The two campuses are in Mequon and Thiensville, respectively.
