Nicolet leaves levy, tax rate nearly the same
Board still has work to do on flood insurance, which could cost $100K
Glendale - Final approval won't come until October, but Nicolet School Board members approved an estimated $17,057,000 tax levy for next school year.
"Tax levy is down 0.06 percent. Our tax rate is down 0.003 percent, less than a penny per thousand (dollars of assessed value). It's essentially equal to the prior year," said Jeff Dellutri, director of business services for the Nicolet High School District.
School Board members approved the levy and $4.31 tax rate Monday in order to bring the budget proposal to its annual meeting.
The plan leaves the levy virtually unchanged from $17,068,364 for the 2011-2012 school year. The tax rate also remains constant with a shift from $4.309 per $1,000 of assessed value for 2011-2012 to an estimated $4.306 for the coming school year.
The overall budget estimate was $24,556,724 compared to $24,597,386 for the 2011-2012 school year.
The proposal includes an approved 1.01 percent raise for secretary and supervisory staff, which board members approved unanimously.
The budget plan did not include expected expenditures for flood insurance, which could cost $100,000 or more.
"We have more work to do," Dellutri said.
Also Tuesday, board members approved $28,663 to complete remaining electrical work to power the new sump pumps in the tunnel. That funding is in addition to the $150,000 sump pump installation approved by FEMA following a 2010 storm that left about 80 percent of the school underwater when eight inches of rain fell in less than five hours.
The board also approved $52,000 for emergency repairs for the school's upper and lower tennis courts. Work on the courts began earlier this month.
