Suspect may be linked to NS home burglaries
Police arrest man who may be involved in seven break-ins
Whitefish Bay — Police have arrested a Whitefish Bay man they believe is responsible for as many as seven burglaries in the village and neighboring Shorewood.
Police received a call of a prowler in the 1500 block of East Cumberland Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.
Responding officers located a suspect who matched the description provided by the caller and arrested him. The facts of this incident closely resemble recent entries to residences in both Whitefish Bay and Shorewood in which homes were entered by cutting first floor window screens at night while residents slept.
Police Chief Robert Jacobs said there were four incidents in Whitefish Bay and three in Shorewood in recent weeks.
In Shorewood last week there were burglaries reported in the 4000 block of North Richland Court and the 4400 block of North Newhall Street. At both homes, cash was taken: $100 from one home and an undisclosed amount taken from a wallet left on a kitchen counter in the other. Screens were cut to gain entry.
A screen was also found cut but entry not gained in the 4500 block of North Larkin Street either Aug. 24 or 25.
In Whitefish Bay, burglaries were reported last week in the 4900 block of North Idlewild Avenue and in the 2000 block of East Glendale Avenue. Again, first-floor screens were cut to gain entry. Taken from one residence was $5 in cash, a laptop computer and two cell phones. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the other home.
The suspect remains in custody, and charges are being sought through the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
No other information will be released until charges have been filed.
