Touch snakes, call like a frog and hold turtles. Participants eat green cake, munch on green cookies and drink green juice.

Participants will walk along the meadows, woods, wetlands and lakeshore of the center. The entire program is taught on the trail.

Participants hike on the trails. Dress for the weather; participants explore outdoors rain or shine.

Senior living center hosts musical performances

Mequon - The Sarah Chudnow Community, 10995 N. Market St., hosts several musical performances.

Mequon - Next Chapter Bookshop, 10976 N. Port Washington Road, hosts its second annual Passport to Adventure! A Magic Tree House Live Reading Tour at 4 p.m. March 16.

Passport to Adventure! is a national tour that brings Jack and Annie, characters from Mary Pope Osborne's Magic Tree House series, live and in person to meet their fans. Fans get to enjoy Jack and Annie's magical traveling adventures through a live, professional theatrical performance with songs based on the Magic Tree House series.

Events also include giveaways and an official Jack and Annie "book stamping." There will be no personalization of the books. So as many children get books stamped as possible, Jack and Annie will stamp only one book from home per child. They will stamp as many new books as purchased at Next Chapter Bookshop.

Tuvan throat singers performing at Bay school

Whitefish Bay - The Alash Ensemble of the Siberian Republic of Tuva will perform at 7 p.m. March 16 at Richards School, 5812 N. Santa Monica Blvd.

Alash is a Tuvan throat singing group. Ensemble members also play a variety of Tuvan traditional instruments. The group's manager, Sean Quirk, grew up in Whitefish Bay.

Group celebrates Women's History Month with speaker

Fox Point - The North Shore Branch of the American Association of University Women presents career officer Major Clydea Prichard-Brown, executive officer of the Milwaukee Recruiting Battalion, at 6:30 p.m. March 20 at Fox Point Lutheran Church, 7510 N. Santa Monica Blvd.

The event, part of the group's celebration of Women's History Month, is geared toward teenage girls, and their parents, who might be thinking about future careers.

Forum to focus on pressures students experience

Whitefish Bay - Advocates for Education hosts a forum at 7 p.m. March 22 in room 47 at Whitefish Bay High School, 1200 E. Fairmount Ave.

Mequon - Milwaukee Area Technical College-Mequon Campus, 5555 W. Highland Road, hosts Solutions for Your Talent Skills Gaps from 8 to 10:30 a.m. March 22.

Panelists discuss how to efficiently measure and address skills gaps in job candidates and in current employees. The event is designed for employers, human resource professionals and managers involved in meeting performance improvement goals.

Firefighters seek donations benefiting lung association

Mequon - Members of the Mequon Fire Department will participate in the US Bank stair climb March 17.

Teams of five or more firefighters will climb 47 floors to the top of the US Bank building in full turnout gear and breathing apparatus (about 75 pounds). They will compete against other fire departments from all around Wisconsin to raise money for the American Lung Association.

Shamrock fundraiser features dinner, auction

Mequon - Lumen Christi Catholic School hosts its Shamrock fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. March 17 at Ozaukee County Club, 10823 N. River Road.

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers, raffles and a silent auction. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. A voice auction will begin at 9:15 p.m. Auction items include a two-hour ride on the new Milwaukee Pedal Tavern, trolley service for up to 27 people for an evening; and an opportunity for five children to run as "mini" Klement's Famous Racing Sausages at a Brewer home game; and jewelry, signed sports items, artwork and sporting events tickets. In addition, the school children created glass mosaic projects for the silent auction.

Mission River, a local band featuring some Lumen Christi dads and alumni dads, provides musical entertainment.

Academy offers free self-defense workshop

Learn the 10 signs of Alzheimer's disease

This interactive workshop identifies the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's disease and separates myth from reality to address the commonly held fears about Alzheimer's in America. There is no cost to attend this program, and it is open to all members of the community. Registration is not required.

The program is ideal for individuals who may be witnessing memory loss or behavioral changes in themselves or a loved one, and want to learn the facts about early detection in order to plan for the future. Theater group performing 'Babette's Feast'

Drop off Passover food donations at area locations

Nonperishable Passover foods will be collected through March 28 at a variety of locations as part of the Jewish community's annual Passover Food Drive.

Marked bins will be placed in: Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, Hillel Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, as well as Mequon Jewish Preschool and Gan Ami Jewish Beginnings, at both the Whitefish Bay and Mequon locations.

Run benefits families of children with cancer

Mequon - Concordia University Wisconsin and Jalyn's Chapter of the Foundation for Children with Cancer is holding its first Gold Ribbon Run, a 5K run and walk charity event, from 9 to 11 a.m. April 14 starting and ending at the Center for Environmental Stewardship on the campus, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive.

The Foundation for Children with Cancer provides financial assistance for the families of children with pediatric cancer.

The entry fee is $15 per person. Participants can choose the $20 option, which includes an official Gold Ribbon Run T-shirt. All participants will receive a goody bag with vendor coupons and giveaways on race day.

Center hosts Yom Hashoah event

Whitefish Bay - Yom Hashoah, Memorial to the Six Million, Remembrance of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and All Resistance, will be held at 2:30 p.m. April 22 at the Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd.

The keynote speaker is Sam Harris, a survivor and president of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. The Yom Hashoah event also includes an intergenerational family program starting at 1 p.m. aimed at students 9 years old and older, along with parents and grandparents, and features face-to-face small group experiences with Holocaust survivors. In addition, the Holocaust Youth Essay Contest Winners will be recognized.

Nicolet hosts Hoops for Hope fundraiser

Glendale - The Children's Service Society of Wisconsin holds its second annual Hoops for Hope fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 at Nicolet High School, 6701 N. Jean Nicolet Road, benefiting the Volunteer Respite Program and HOPE worldwide Milwaukee Chapter.

Admission is $2 per person for each member of an entire family or $5 per person.

A free-throw tournament is at 11 a.m.; a 3-point tournament is at noon. The entry for each tournament is $5.

From 2 to 4 p.m., the Milwaukee Police Department plays the Hope worldwide Milwaukee Chapter.

There are games for kids, raffles, food, face painting and a live band.

In addition, there will be free cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings a free heart scan from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Afternoon charity event benefits Gilda's Club

Glendale - Sprecher Brewing Co., 701 W. Glendale Ave., hosts its fifth annual Brewing Up a Cure to benefit Gilda's Club of Southeastern Wisconsin from noon to 4 p.m. April 29.

The event begins with lunch, followed by mini massages, beauty and acupuncture treatments, health and wellness tips, educational presentations and an assortment of soothing mini spa treatments. A brewery tour and Sprecher beer samples, for participants 21 and older, is available.

All proceeds benefit Gilda's Club, a free community support organization for individuals and their families who are living with cancer.

Advance tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children 16 and younger. Tickets purchased at the door are $30 for adults and $15 for children.

Concordia announces 2011-12 theater lineup

Mequon - Concordia University Wisconsin, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive, presents four theatrical performances starting this fall.

Resource center seeks vendors for fair

Shorewood - Vendors are needed for the eighth annual Shorewood Community Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19 at the Shorewood Village Center in the lower level of the Shorewood Public Library, 3920 N. Murray Ave.

Vendors can rent an 8-foot table for $20 to display sale items. The Shorewood Senior Resource Center is responsible for publicity, including lawn signs, posters and a classified ad in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Toys, household items, comic books, craft items, plants and collectibles have been sold at previous flea markets. No used clothing, food or food products will be accepted for sale.

Foundation presents four fine arts programs

Mequon - The Weyenberg Public Library Foundation presents four programs in its 2012 Fine Arts Series at the Frank L. Weyenberg Public Library, 11345 N. Cedarburg Road.

At 6:30 p.m. April 3, the library will host the Optimist Theater's To Be! Shakespeare Here and Now. Actor Ron Scot Fry will portray Shakespeare in this interactive presentation that combines dynamic interpretations of some of Shakespeare's most famous works with a humorous look at life in Renaissance England.

At 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20, Wisconsin native and famed storyteller Tom Pease will use movement, sign language, humor and joy to create an interactive concert.

Finally, the Milwaukee Handbell Ensemble performs its original and unique assortment of timeless seasonal classics at 7 p.m. Nov. 26.

Regular library services are suspended half an hour before the start time on the day of the event. No registration is required for these free programs, and all are welcome to attend.

Anaba to host metal sculpture art exhibit

Shorewood - The Anaba Tea Room, 2107 E. Capitol Drive, hosts art exhibit "Figuratively Speak" by Paul Bobrowitz Jr. through April 29.

The exhibit features metal sculptures.

Lynden hosts variety of activities

River Hills - The Lynden Sculpture Garden, 2145 W. Brown Deer Road, offers a variety of programs.

General admission is $9 and $7 for students and seniors. Members and children younger than 6 are free. Admission includes access to the sculpture garden and house.

Spring Studio Classes: March 20 to May 19

Classes for children ages 3 to 14 focuses on three-dimensional artmaking. Taught by experienced art educators, classes combine creative expression with an age-appropriate understanding of media, processes and techniques. Classes meet once a week for eight weeks and include Garden Animals (ages 3-5); Make It New (ages 6-9); and Sculptor's Process (ages 9-12). Beginning in late April, a four-week Saturday workshop, Coracle Craft: A Boat Building Workshop (ages 9-14), are available.

Yoga Workshops: The Seven Chakras: Fifth Chakra: Throat: 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 25

The workshops explore the energy system of the human body through yoga poses, Vinyasa flow (connected poses) and artmaking. The throat chakra is connected to expressing and receiving.

Women's Speaker Series: Amy Krouse Rosenthal: 7 to 9 p.m. April 3

Amy Krouse Rosenthal is an award-winning author of more than 20 children's books. She also is the creator of "Encyclopedia of An Ordinary Life."

Haiti and the Midwestern Imagination: through May 13

The Haiti-inspired works of Orville Bulman (1904-1978) and watercolors of Haiti by Oscar Sanchez will be on display.

Summer Art Camps: June 13 to Aug. 17

Two-, three- and five-day camps for children ages 6 to 14 feature environmental programs, visiting artists and the opportunity to explore a wide variety of art media. Each camp concludes with an informal showing for family and friends. In addition to Garden Animals, Art Elements, Earthworks and Sally Duback's Puppets, new offerings include opportunities to build a miniature tree house or explore the color orange.

Acacia presents 'Anne of Green Gables'

Mequon - Acacia Theater Company will present "Anne of Green Gables" at 8 p.m. July 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 and 3 p.m. July 15 and 22 at Concordia University Wisconsin's Todd Wehr Auditorium, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive.

Follow the adventures of a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live with a plain-spoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy. She wins them and all of Prince Edward Island over with her irrepressible spirit and imagination.
