Receive a free State Fair ticket for donating blood

Brown Deer - To boost slumping summer blood donations, BloodCenter of Wisconsin is offering Wisconsin State Fair tickets to donors who give blood through Aug. 11 at the local donor center, 5960 W. Brown Deer Road.

Anyone 17 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate. The entire process takes about an hour. Donors should bring a photo ID that includes birth date.

Senior Resource Center offers series for caregivers

Shorewood - The Shorewood Senior Resource Center sponsors a three-week series for caregivers, Understanding Dementia: An Educational Program for Family Caregivers, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 8 and 15 in the lower level of the Shorewood Public Library, 3920 N. Murray Ave.

At Session I, there will be information on the warning signs of dementia, the difference between dementia and Alzheimer's disease and treatment options and progression. Session II deals with steps to maximize function and strategies to optimize communication and interactions. Session III focuses on understanding challenging or difficult behaviors and strategies for behavior management.

The presentations are free, but registration is required. Supervisory respite for your loved one may be available. Those interested should ask about it when they call to register at least 14 days in advance of the program.

Lynden Sculpture Garden hosts variety of activities

River Hills - The Lynden Sculpture Garden, 2145 W. Brown Deer Road, offers a variety of programs.

General admission is $9 and $7 for students and seniors. Members and children younger than 6 are free. Admission is free to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Sept. 3. Admission includes access to the sculpture garden and house.

All events are free with admission unless otherwise indicated.

The garden is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is open until 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Senior Resource Center plans trip to Brewers game

Shorewood - The Shorewood Senior Resource Center is planning a trip to see the Brewers play the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 8.

The infield box seats reserved are in the shade on the first base side. A school bus will leave at 11 a.m. from the Shorewood High School parking lot, 1701 E. Capitol Drive. The bus returns to Shorewood immediately after the game.

Tickets are $25 for Shorewood residents and $28 for nonresidents. Both registration and prepayment are required.

Community band presents outdoor concert series

Glendale - The Israel Scouts Tzofim Friendship Caravan presents a free outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Bayshore Town Center, 5800 N. Bayshore Drive.

Jewish playwrights featured in three productions

Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Jewish Museum Milwaukee and the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center presents three plays by Jewish playwrights, "Exploring Jewish Voices," during its 2012-13 season.

JCC offers summer camp in Eagle River

Whitefish Bay - The Steve & Shari Sadek Family Camp Interlaken Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., offers Family Camp on Aug. 14 to 19 the overnight camp in Eagle River.

Family Camp offers a Jewish camping experience for families from Wisconsin and across the U.S. This camping experience provides an opportunity for families to meet other Jewish families from other communities, and serves as a setting for a family reunion.

Camp activities include swimming, sailing, water skiing, nature walks, tennis, arts and crafts, and a ropes course. Families are housed in their own cabin. The fee for Family Camp is $995 for a family of four, with an additional $100 per family member, and includes all meals, activities, events and snacks.

Concordia hosts August duathlon

The 2-mile run/20-mile bike ride/2-mile run benefits Racers Against Childhood Cancer. The run course is flat on blacktop and grass. The bike course is scenic with some Lake Michigan views; mostly flat with some rolling hills. Relays consist of one runner running both sections and one cyclist. Walk raises awareness of kidney disease

Milwaukee - The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin hosts the 2012 Kidney Walk starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 at Brown Deer Park, 7835 N. Green Bay Road.

Check-in starts at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m. The Kidney Walk is a free one-mile walk that raises awareness of kidney disease and the importance of having healthy kidneys.

YogaOne Studios provides free yoga classes at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. There also will be art activities for children, and all Kidney Walk participants can purchase discounted rounds of golf at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course on the day of the walk.

Foundation presents four fine arts programs

Mequon - The Weyenberg Public Library Foundation presents four programs in its 2012 Fine Arts Series at the Frank L. Weyenberg Public Library, 11345 N. Cedarburg Road.

At 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20, Wisconsin native and famed storyteller Tom Pease will use movement, sign language, humor and joy to create an interactive concert.
