Village's outdoor events will get you outside

Shorewood — Shorewood residents and students can cure their cabin fever by participating in a series of events and outdoor programs, including the following:

· June 24: Milwaukee River canoeing with the Urban Ecology Center. Paddle this beautiful stretch of the river from Kletzsch to Estabrook parks. You won't even know you're in the city and will be surprised with how clean and healthy this river has become.

A free afternoon for beginners or experienced paddlers. Call (414) 588-0617 to register.

· June, July and August: Milwaukee River and Atwater Beach Fun Days programs for kids with the Shorewood REC Department.

· July 24: The Shorewood Waters booth at the Summer Celebration at Shorewood Library.

· Aug. 23: Surf @water Beach Party. Paddle and play down at the beach. The event includes surfboard and paddle board demos, food, beverages, music, a sunrise ceremony, yoga and ukulele demos.

· Sept.17: International Beach Clean-up at Atwater Beach. Collect data and report it to the international effort to see how clean our beaches are.

· Oct. 4: Shorewood's Fish and Feather event at Hubbard Park. A free fun family day to enjoy the fall colors, fly fish, watch the salmon run up the river, see birds of prey up close and personal, and more.

Learn the history and more of Milwaukee Rep

Glendale — Two representatives from the Milwaukee Repertory Theater discuss the history of the Rep, the process of selecting productions, future programs and how the theater operates at 1:30 p.m. May 14 in the Glendale Senior Citizens' Clubroom on the lower level of Glen Hills Middle School, 2600 W. Mill Road.

The event is free and refreshments will be served.
