REAGAN-BUSH LEGACY WORSE THAN IMAGINED
Yes, closing Guantanamo is absolutely necessary. Now comes the hard part. Cleaning up the horrible mess created and left by Reagan-Bush. And though Clinton left Bush a surplus in the federal budget, he was not up to straightening things out because of the time given over to defending his immoral private activities. But the disasters now facing us began with Reagan's "trickle down" economic policies that the first George Bush called "voodoo economics" until he, too, was bought out by the corporate behemoths who benefited so greatly from right-wing hand-outs.
To begin to climb out of this right-wing morass will require each of us to have a reality check and change the way we perceive and conduct our lives and philosophy. We bought into the failed idea that give to the rich and it will trickle down. All that did was give the rich more benefits and the poor sought the good life via credit hocus-pocus offered by financial institutions. It all has exploded in our face. To put things in more proper perspective...
Greed-capitalism has failed us badly. * We must share the burdens of America as one people [this includes the wealthy]. * Intelligent use of diplomacy works. No more "mission accomplished" or "I looked into Putin's eyes and..." * You do not "sell" democracy at the end of a gun. * Torture should be reprehensible to every American. * Universal health care is absolutely necessary...now! * Being wealthy does not mean one is intelligent [e.g. Paris Hilton, George Bush, and the many CEOS who led their companies into bankruptcy]. * We must end the favors bought by big business in Washington. * Let some fresh air and openness into the White House. * Iraq never was a nation, it was a colonial concoction, and it will fail and disintegrate eventually. We should not have invaded. Get out! * Give more than token attention to energy options, ecology, drug costs, insurance and medical scams. * Capitalism needs federal regulation and oversight. * Re-join the United Nations. * Cooperate with our nation-friends in international diplomacy. * Improve benefits for our military vets. * Public education needs attention. * President Obama: act with principled conviction.
The mess we have been left with since Ronald Reagan and the two George Bushes will haunt us for a long, long time.
