Obama Doubles Chances of Getting Things Right
In the past we have heard politicians talk aboard corners of their mouth. They will say one thing and do another. Some people call this hypocrisy. However today, there is a new spin on this label formerly called hypocrisy. Now, when you say one thing and do another, you are doubling your chances of being right. There can be no better example of this in the Obama administration.
I'm getting sick and tired of hearing Obama blame Bush for all the ills in the world. Or at least all of the ills in today's economy. Whether or not Bush is the origin of today's economic problems is becoming more and more irrelevant. It's time to stop pointing fingers and work on the solutions. It doesn't matter who caused the problems, Americans are looking for solutions. Results. Pointing fingers is not going to bring prosperity. Obama is the president and this is going to be known as Obama's recession. After all, he campaigned for the job and now he's got it.
George Bush did not invent deficit spending. Yes, he doubled the national debt in his terms. His father also doubled the national debt in his term. Added to the deficits unpaid by many of the other former presidents, the national debt is now quite a sum. However, Obama did not inherit $1 trillion spending bill. Obama did not inherit another $410 billion bill that is chock-full of earmarks. Yet, Obama stood in front of Congress and America touting the absence of earmarks in his spending bills. It does not add up. Also not adding up is Obama's commitment to cutting the deficit in half by the end of his term. After tripling the deficit in one month, cutting it in half in three more years should not seem that difficult. Still, the liberal media believes that that is too ambitious a goal for Obama to do. Will government spending ever be under control? Not in this administration. I'm just glad that the spending is going to be done in my lifetime so that I reap the benefits of all the spending and the tab is being passed on to future generations. It has to be. It is far too large to be paid off in our lifetimes. Even if we live to be 100.
The president and the Democrats in Congress urged Americans to allow Congress to draft and pass a bill quickly to help turn the economy around. Again, by the time we look at the specifics, which we were not allowed to until it was too late, we see that most of this immediate spending is not going to take place for one or two years. How does this differ from doing nothing? Once the economy recovers on its own, there will be plenty more of new government spending to go along with it. No one could have read the 1100 page document. And what baffles me is that it was not available in PDF form. It had to be read in hard copy. It took over two reams of paper per copy. Yet the Democrats are also claiming that anything to do with stimulus has to be "Green." This will create jobs in the paper producing industry.
Yes, this administration also touts the need for better education. Just like every president before him. Nonetheless, the Democrats are banking on the ignorance of the American public. Just like New York senator Schumer who is now quoted as saying that the minor pork projects in the stimulus bill are okay because Americans don't care. Well, I for one was hoping that we would be going forward, working towards solutions while still being able to have a high regard for the American people. Now it's back to wait and see.
