WHO'S UNCOMFORTABLE WITH ROMNEY?
While we all suffer through the agonizing and anti-intellectual drama known as the presidential election cycle, I have to wonder who is more uncomfortable with Mitt Romney, Democrats or Republicans?
It is one thing to try and erase Romneycare from Mitt's background so Democrats don't use it in the election, but it is quite anorther to try and erase it from the minds of frantic and desperate tea-partiers and extreme right-wingers. After all, the cornerstone of the Obama administration, health care reform, was forged to a great extent from what Governor Romney proposed and got sanctioned in Massachusetts. And not only that, but Romneycare/Obamacare is extremely popular and successful in Massachusetts. Wow, how [and why?] would any honest candidate try to distance himself or herself from success like that? Awkward.
However "awkward" is a word that fits MItt Romney in more ways than one. His childhood in Mexico, his father's open and honest political background [unfit for today's right-wing], his reluctance to simply and openly discuss his tax-sheltering finances in Switzerland or the Cayman Islands, his American job-destroying leadership at Bain, his out-of-the-American-mainstream Mormonism, his deceptions on his federal reporting forms about CEO leadership at Bain, his childhood "pranks" against certain types of kids, his strong desire to protect the upper-level income Americans from tax propriety, and much-much more give evidence of a certain reluctance to fully support Romney. His major financial support comes from the very people who stand to benefit most from his election: rich, extreme, greedy, right-wingers.
The Koch brothers alone have and will contribute more than the total amount of money spent in presidential campaigns of not too long ago. What do the Koch brothers want and get from a President Romney? The little rich cliques that have formed to support Romney have to overlook much of this tainted candidate's background and resume. But when it comes to protecting greed, Romney has enough purity for the richest Americans. In fact, Romney is wedded to this group and cannot stray from offering them strong support. The rest of us are left with a candidate who has to run away from one of his greatest accomplishments: Romneycare.
Knowing this, will you be a happy voter in November? The other choice for President has his own baggage to lug to the White House.
