WALKER BOUGHT & SOLD OUT-OF-STATE
From Milw. Journal Sentinel, 5-2-12, p. 11A: "The four Democrats will be easily be outspent by Walker, whose $25.3 million raised was more than 12 times the $2 million raised by all four challengers combined. In the most recent reporting period, Walker received two-thirds of his money from out of state." "Of the nearly $11 million Walker spent over three months, $4.6 million of it...went toward malings. Much of that money went to SCM Associates of North Carolina, a direct mail firm that lists Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as a client." Adding to the multitude of Scott Walker's lies and distortions are the "facts" and "figures" he presents about Tom Barrett's job as Mayor of Milwaukee. Trying to run away from his miserable job as Governor, and failing to live up to his promise to bring 250,000 jobs to the state, Walker mentions all the jobs lost in Milwaukee in Barrett's past year. Well, Scott, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Wednesday:
"First, the local March job losses cited by the Walker campaign were for the four-county (Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washingtongon, Ozaukee), not the City of Milwaukee."
"Second, over the broader time span of the past 12 months, most of the job losses statewide have occured outside the Milwaukee metro area. From March 2011 to March 2012, the state lost an estimated 23,900 jobs (public and private sectors combined) -- the most in the country, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most of that decline --20,100 lost jobs-- occured outside metorpolitan Milwaukee."
"THIRD, TAKING JUST PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYMENT, METRO MILWAUKEE ACTUALLY OUTPERFORMED THE STATE AS A WHOLE OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS..."
If you check with any reliable news source, you will see the amazing lead Walker has in accumulating money for his recall campaign. Much, if not most, of that money is not even coming from Wisconsin, but from big corporations and fat cats outside this state. And the huge sums received from these fat cats makes the labor union money for Falk and Barrett look like peanuts.
I know Tom Barrett personally...more casually than closely. And through the years he has taken on some of the trappings of a politician. But being mayor of a major American city is a tough job. And in Wisconsin, Milwaukee faces especially tough going because the biggest city in the state gets short shrift. There is a sort of liberal-poser mentality in Madison, and a poorly conceived suspicion by the rural and small cities here. We do not need another governor who is tied too closely to Madison's posed progressivism.
In the next month you in Wisconsin will be voting in a primary and final election for governor of the state. It is not as important that you vote for either Falk or Barrett, but it IS important that you vote! The Democrats in the state have done a horrible job of getting out the vote, even on very important issues. We need a united front in the final election, a very high percentage of voters turning out to cast their ballot. Once again, a very large vote will strongly favor the Democrats. But once again, the state Democrats have staggered, wavered, stumbled, bungled, and generally lost their way. Good intentions do not win elections, votes do.
If ever you needed a reason to vote against Scott Walker, it should have been abundantly clear when a posed Koch brother called Walker on the phone. What Walker said was such a low moral and ethical tone that it was shameful. Scott Walker is not a nice man, and selling his office is one big reason to get him out of the governor's mansion. But Walker's entire political career has hinged on this: selling out his office, lock, stock, and barrel to greed capitalism, right-wing anti-intellectualism, and scheming big money.
Get to the polls on Tuesday and vote for either Tom Barrett or Kathleen Falk. Then return in June to vote again to get rid of a very dangerous Scott Walker. Vote!
