Barry Takes it Easy
On the heels of the fresh victory for taking credit for giving all working Americans a $40 a week tax break for two months, president Obama jetted off to Hawaii. During the holiday season, several presidents have taken a surprise trip overseas to visit the soldiers defending our freedom and show some appreciation for the sacrifices that they have made in their lives for us. But not president Obama. His trip only went partly across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. I guess he couldn't turn a trip to visit our soldiers into a campaign event, so the idea never came up again.
2012 will be a year of hard work for the president. Out on the campaign trail, that is. His campaign will have shovel ready jobs. They will be digging up the dirt on what for the opponent is. Having no record to run on, the campaign will have to rely on negativity and character assassinations. Four years ago, Obama was to be considered the uniter. He was supposed to bring together a polarized country weary of being divided on just about any issue. Well, I don't have to tell you, things have gotten worse.
We also elected Obama to get the economy rolling again. He prolonged the recession and made it worse. Across the country, poverty has increased, wages have declined, home values have plummeted. Anyone with 401(k) left, does not have to tell you what the direction was for building equity for a sound retirement. Finger-pointing did not solve the crisis. Blaming others did not give us a brighter future. Yes, we got change but in the process we lost hope.
The American dream is coming to an end. The Golden age of man is now tarnished. Gone are the dreams that each of us had that if we worked hard, invested well, that things may work out in the end. But now it's all a sense of entitlement. If we think our rewards in life are not equal to our efforts, we no longer buckled down and work hard. W get up protest signs and scream how unfair everybody else is. No, it's not what made us great, but that's what supposed to give us equality of outcome.
I guess it's time to realize that our president is not our savior. Entitlements will not lead us to prosperity. yet people believe that cutting the Social Security tax to give people a $40 per week increase in take-home pay fair and just but $20 per month decrease any property tax bill is selfish. yes, there is a lot more work to be done to make this country prosperous again. but because it's the holiday season, let's just sit back and relax until the weather is warm enough to pick up that picket sign and protest why things are so rotten again.
