The Candidate's Speech

Last Thursday, news junkies across the country were tuned in to their favorite channel in order to watch the president deliver a much anticipated speech. What we believe we saw, may be as different as the channel that it was watched on.

"Pass this bill"and America will be healed again. "Pass this bill right away."After about a month of congressional recess, and President Obama's vacation in Martha's Vineyard, there seems to be an urgency to pass another stimulus bill. Again, the administration wants it done quickly so that we don't have time to see what's in it. What is in it? Well, nobody knows because he bill does not exist as of today. Even with all this urgency, it may be another week or two before we find out what the president's plan is and how it is going to be paid for. So what is Congress going to actually pass?

In this much-anticipated speech, President Obama views America from the vantage point of the community organizer. His opposition is a bunch of people who are so stupid that they believe they want all government dismantled and everyone in America can fend for themselves. Survival of the fittest. For some reason, I don't view this as a uniting attitude to bring the people of this great country together. Yet if you find fault with it, you're the one who is un-American and wants America to fail.

Since no plan actually exists that can be examined, again we have to focus on the method. President Obama seems interested in saving jobs-mainly his. The president said that the next election is 14 months away and we should not have to sit and wait for further failure until after the election. That, I agree with.

Contrary to popular belief, conservatives do not want this country to fail. After a four year economic struggle, it's time to return to prosperity. Americans want to prosperity and economic growth, even in this administration. It's too bad that it's just more of the same. In early 2009, President Obama pass a stimulus bill to get people working again and to re-build the infrastructure of this country. Namely roads and bridges. Instead, the money was spent by state governments in order to plug their fiscal holes. Wisconsin was one of those states which could put off a serious budget reform until this year.

Instead of concentrating on rebuilding the economy, President Obama decided that it was more important to pass a huge entitlement for universal health care known as Obamacare. That bill got passed and the uncertainty continued and the economy stalled. Last year, President Obama and his new jobs are, Jeff Immelt, laughed off the notion of shovel ready jobs. Not too many others found it funny. But the good news is this-of the 14 million people who are unemployed in this country, they can be put back to work by creating construction jobs and rehiring teachers. Sounds like a payback to the union thugs to me. But that James Hoffa is a respectable guy... and a good example to the children.

So where will this $445 billion come from? Using the method created by the budget crisis, the money will be spent today for future savings in the upcoming decade. Does this mean that if we hold the line on spending in the future, we will have a lower budget because all of the money would have been spent in the next couple of years? It doesn't seem like we're taking that budget crisis seriously. Will probably see the president laughing it off just like the shovel ready jobs.

Although asking others to do so, President Obama is not putting politics aside. He's coming up with a plan practically daring Republicans to reject. Then he wants to go to their congressional district and point out that anyone who is against this bill is anti-jobs, anti-tax-cut, anti-American, and all the other names that the progressives like to throw out.

I'm also growing tired of President Obama blaming others for things he cannot get through Congress. Bad ideas should not be rubber stamped. The great leaders in this country are remembered as being great because of the work they did to get their ideas past. Excuse making is not an accomplishment. Leadership is getting people to follow you because they believe it is in their best interest. Coercion and finger-pointing doesn't work the same way. There is a crisis of leadership in this country today, and President Obama has 14 months to show if he has the leadership skills needed. If not, Americans will elect someone who they hope will demonstrate leadership... again.
