A LETTER TO READ
Before the first American soldier crossed from Kuwait into Iraq I warned about the harm that it would do to the U.S. moral and ethical fibre. In the Sunday, September 5, 2010 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel a letter appeared that was well-written and on-point. The letter-writer, Peg Backus-Wallner of Greendale, is not a familiar name to me, but what she has to say indicates a simlarity to my thoughts. Here it is...
" 'Burn a Koran' event scheduled for Sept. 11, 2010, by Dove World Outreach Center (a church) in Gainesville, Fla., the news said.
"Al-Qaida has won. It has succeeded in creating massive fear and subsequent hate in American citizens. It has provoked us to dirty our hands in inhumane and illegal torture practices that are considered acceptable and normal. It has gotten us to subvert our own rights to privacy. It is succeeding in getting us to voluntarily bleed our economy dry by spending billions of dollars on illegal and ill-planned invasions of other countries.
"It has us sending our citizens and youth to be killed or maimed trying to destroy Al-Qaida and democratize countries that are not ready for democracy. It has provoked us to act against our Constitution as well as international law.
"The Central Intelligence Agency is paying the Taliban protection money to not attack military caravans.
"Hate language is now spilling over our airwaves, inciting people to burn mosques, Korans, physically attack Muslims and people who are mistakenly identified as Muslim.
"In summary, Al-Qaida has led us to act out on the world stage as a people who are hysterical, ignorant, arrogant and immoral. We shame ourselves. I call that a win for Al-Qaida." -Peg Backus-Wallner
Thank you for introducing some sanity into the ignorant actions of far too many Americans. Amen.
